Purple Martins are known for their incredible nest fidelity and homing instincts. Despite traveling thousands of miles between breeding seasons, they will often return to the exact same nest. In fact, in instances when Purple Martin females have been removed from their nests, they have traveled distances of over 200 miles by the next morning to return to their homes.

Nesting and Mating

Purple Martins arrive in the spring between January and April. Though arrival times vary throughout the country, they can be quite regular for specific locales. Purple Martins are known for their nest fidelity, so the only Purple Martins who will be looking for new nests are last year’s fledglings. Often, you will hear the term “scout” used for the first Purple Martin’s to enter an area. Purple Martins lay between 3 and 8 eggs, with the average number being around 5. Eggs are laid on successive days of the week, usually in the morning. Purple Martin eggs are usually a pure white color. The incubation period for Purple Martins is on average 13 to 14 days. The female performs incubation alone, but both sexes feed the young Martins.

Purple Martins are born extremely weak and without down. They are constantly hungry and their parents will make frequent trips outside to feed them, sometimes arriving with food every 30 seconds. La Comunidad de Madrid ampliar la oferta de cursos de FP el prximo ao 2011/12 con cuatro nuevas titulaciones de tcnico y tcnico superior, segn ha aprobado este jueves el Consejo de Gobierno regional y ha informado en rueda de prensa el portavoz autonmico, Ignacio Gonzlez.

Con los decretos aprobados este jueves se da cumplimiento a la Ley Orgnica de Educacin (LOE) y se “adapta la oferta de esta etapa formativa a las necesidades del mercado, favoreciendo la movilidad laboral”, ha explicado Gonzlez.

En concreto, a partir del prximo curso los centros pblicos de la regin ofertarn tres nuevas titulaciones de Tecnico Superior –en desarrollo de aplicaciones web, desarrollo en aplicaciones multiplataforma, y en procesos y calidad en la industria alimentaria–, y una cuarta de Tcnico en electromecnica de vehculos automviles.

Adems, el Ejecutivo autonmico tambin ha aprobado la modificacin del decreto del currculo Tecnico en Gestin Administrativa, aprobado el pasado ao y que se implantar tambin el curso 2011-2012.

Los nuevos ttulos acreditan cualificaciones profesionales del Catlogo Nacional que son reconocidas por la Administracin Laboral y en el mbito europeo, y contienen mdulos profesionales especficos de cada profesin. Los mdulos se desarrollan en dos cursos acadmicos con una duracin total de 2.000 horas.

Actualmente, en los centros la Comunidad de Madrid se imparten enseanzas de 90 ttulos diferentes, que podran incrementarse en funcin de la aparicin de nuevas titulaciones que puedan ser de inters para reforzar el tejido industrial y el desarrollo econmico de la regin.

As with any cancer, treatment for Mesothelioma depends on the location of the cancer, the progression of the disease, the age as well as state of health of the patient.

The aim is to prevent spread of the disease; shrink the tumor prior to surgery, known as neoadjuvant therapy; to annihilate any remains of the tumor in the body post surgery; and to relieve pain and other discomfort, palliative chemotherapy. Experts recommend prescribing premetrexed along with cisplastin. These drugs have shown positive results and this is now standard care for Mesothelioma not treatable by surgery.

4. Biological therapy using interleukin 2.

5. Immunotherapy where the body’s own immune system is stimulated to fight the disease. Biological response modifiers, BRMs, are used in treatment. These enhance the functions of the immune system; regulate metabolic reactions that promote growth of cancers; alter cancer cell division; block or reverse processes that lead to formation of cancers; and prevent spread of cancer.

6. Gene therapy, where attempts are made to correct the gene sequence that causes the cancer. This is of two kinds, replacement gene therapy and knockout gene therapy.

7. Administration of lovastatin, a cholesterol lowering drug.

8. Photodynamic treatment where a photosensitive medication is activated using a laser. This is done during the surgical removal of cancerous tissues.

9. Draining of fluid in the chest or abdominal cavity followed by introduction of medications into the cavity to prevent fluid accumulation is done for patients who have uncontrolled fluid accumulation and intense discomfort stemming from it.

10. Combination therapy or Trimodal therapy which means surgery accompanied by radiation and chemotherapy.

Often, complementary medicines are also used. Termed to be holistic this kind of treatment focuses on a patient’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being.
